Monster Chess is a dark fantasy chess game for Sega Mega Drive / Genesis that turns the classic rules of chess into a gothic monster battle.
Two armies clash on animated boards: cyber angel monsters against demon and skeleton creatures, with dramatic attacks, deaths, tactical feedback, FM music, and arcade-style presentation.
The game keeps the real rules of chess, including legal movement, check, checkmate, stalemate, castling, en passant, and promotion, but wraps every match in a campaign structure with monsters, level themes, story outcomes, and cinematic audio. Players can fight through an 8-level campaign, play local multiplayer, or adjust the challenge with 4 CPU difficulty levels.

Story
Time has fractured, and history is being rewritten through a supernatural chess war. Each battle decides the fate of a different era, turning the board into a battlefield where victory can save entire civilizations or condemn them to darker timelines.
The white army, a legion of cyber angel monsters, fights to protect the flow of history. The black army, formed by demons, skeletons, and infernal creatures, seeks to twist the past and conquer every possible future.
Across 8 campaign levels, every match pushes the world toward a new destiny, leading to 20 different endings shaped by victory, defeat, and the side that dominates the timeline.

The game has been tested on original Sega Genesis / Mega Drive hardware. (PAL/NTSC)
The game should also run on an Analogue Mega Sg.
It has also been tested on Chinese and Russian MD2 / MD3 clone systems, but we cannot guarantee compatibility with all clone hardware.
